Journal entry:
Living In Color
Life drenches me in
Color every moment of
Every single day.
There is the green of
All living things surrounding
Me with abundance.
There is the blue of
Water, sky, and loneliness
Arching over me.
There is the red of
Love, passion, anger, and clothes
Enveloping me.
There is the yellow
Of sunshine lighting my world
Revealing color.
There is the purple
Of friendship and loyalty
Adding happiness.
There is the orange of
Sunrise and sunset glowing
With such sweet romance.
There is the white of
Pages accepting my words
Or bringing others.
There is the black of
Pain that I cannot combat
And nighttime I love.
Life drenches me in
Rainbows of color, which bring
Much richness to life.

I am grateful:
1. I slept well and awoke energized.
2. I found great new books at the library.
3. I am rich despite not being financially wealthy.
4. Mom liked the tee-shirts I picked up for her.
5. Life is rewarding, despite my limitations.
I enjoyed my Tuesday and accomplished more than I expected. I hope your day was good. Now, while you have a few moments, I encourage you to put your imagination to work and do something creative. There is no time like the present to engage in activity. In fact, this is the only time you can achieve your potential. The past is gone and unchangeable, and the future is always ahead of you. Use this moment to your advantage.
As a prompt, write about color. You could pick one color for your poem, story, or journal entry, or you could use a variety as I did. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.
I hope you have enjoyed your visit to my blog. I appreciate the time you spent here so much. I hope you will return often, but you might also want to subscribe to Chronicles by email. Any comments you have are welcome.
Always,
Jo Ann

Reading
When you
Enter the world
Created by the work
Of a writer between covers
Of a book, you experience a great
Adventure designed to take you
Deep within your vivid
Fantasies, so…
Please read.

I am grateful:
1. I am here to help Mom when she needs me.
2. There is purpose to my life.
3. We have the ability to keep the house at a comfortable temperature.
4. I finished reading The Legend Of Broken by Caleb Carr.
5. I watched the Kentucky Derby.
Mom has been in a great deal of pain, so my Saturday has been touched with sadness. I hope your day was better. While you have the opportunity, I encourage you to engage your creativity. You never know what delights you can bring to life until you delve into your imagination. If you believe it impossible, read what I wrote today again. I was totally without inspiration, but I managed to write. You can do meaningful work if you only make an effort.
As a prompt, write about reading. This is something magical that we do, and you no doubt have a poem, story, or journal entry about it within you. If you use this prompt, please leave a link to your work in the comments below.
Thank you so much for reading my blog. I hope you will continue to visit often, but you might also want to subscribe to Chronicles. If you have anything to share with me, please leave a comment.

But I am led deeper into

Declaration Of Intent
No, no,
Do not tell me
I cannot do all things
I set my mind and heart upon
Because I will without doubt prove you wrong
Nothing at all will prevent me
From doing everything
I aspire to do
In time

My poem today answers the prompts at Poetic Asides. I hope you will visit that site for inspiration.
Shooting Stars
There is light and dark
In everyone, but some are
More to an extreme
Being who we deem heroes
And villains, the best or worst.
We aspire to be
Heroes to our friends and kin,
But it is so rare
We achieve those lofty heights
In their true estimation.
Villains, we do not
Want to be cast as at all,
But sometimes we play
The role without intention
And no way can avoid it.
We best perhaps can
Only hope our lives are bright
Less left in shadow,
Living life courageously,
Whether heroes or villains.

The following poem is prompted by Poetic Asides. You might want to go visit that site for a bit of inspiration.
Tradeoffs
I do not have much,
I have given up a lot,
My disease hurts me,
But I am very well blessed
Because I am still serving.
I have given up
Many opportunities
Over time’s passage,
But I have gained as many
In the life that is left me.
Life is perfected
On an ongoing basis
Even though I lack
Some ability because
Of my own mental illness.
I could have been great
If not stricken with disease,
But I have learned that
Hardship brings many prospects
And occasions for triumph.
I am fortunate -
God chose me to be special,
Touched by His wonder,
A vessel filled with His grace,
Overwhelmed by His mercy.

Moot Point
I surely do not
Have the proper words to write
Another poem,
The syllables are stuck in
The labyrinth of my mind.
Imagination
Dwells in silence not speaking
Its sentences to
Me, I am left with nothing
From which to spin worthy lines.
Language’s magic
Does not open itself to
My wondering brain
I am stuck, stuck, stuck, without
Any verses to share with you.

Journal entry:
Emily Dickinson’s poem and my essay:
I taste a liquor never brewed –
From Tankards scooped in Pearl –
Not all the Vats upon the Rhine
Yield such an Alcohol!
Inebriate of Air — am I –
And Debauchee of Dew –
Reeling — thro endless summer days –
From inns of Molten Blue –
When “Landlords” turn the drunken Bee
Out of the Foxglove’s door–
When Butterflies — renounce their “drams” –
I shall but drink the more!
Till Seraphs swing their snowy Hats –
And Saints — to windows run –
To see the little Tippler
Leaning against the — Sun –
Emily Dickinson
The Poem As Liquor
In the first stanza I believe Emily is writing about language in the poem. How it tastes new, is precious, and is uncommon. The poem is contained in a form which is not of baser materials. It cannot come from other minds, but is a distillation of the self. No one else could make such a potent use of language.
In the second stanza she relates her intoxication with the elements and how she breathes in endless warmth from the environment. This gives her the ability to write authoritatively from her own experience. She shares her self with we readers who visit from the wider world.
In the third stanza she scoffs at those who would place restrictions on her freedom to express herself. She states she will all the more enjoy herself because of those who wish to govern her use of language and form. She is breaking the rules with abandon.
In the fourth stanza she seems to be saying the heavenly hosts will rejoice with her in exuberance. Everyone will see her as outstanding in her presentations, which are shining with originality. She believes her work is life affirming and nurturing. She leans on beneficial elements supporting her and those who read her work.
The poem is so rare and fine readers can enjoy it on its surface or in a deeper reading. The language is rich and inviting. The images stand out convincingly.

My poem was prompted by the wordle at The Sunday Whirl. The words in italics come from that site. If you are in need of inspiration you may find it there.
Preventive Measures
I remain trapped by
Bundles of words in corners
I climbed to avoid
Damp storm winds and thunder bolts
Which shook me like a corn husk.
You bring sweet relief
Through your reading what might have
Only become ash
Scattered upon the flooring
Of this lonely shut off room.
I break away from
My own limitations to
Grasp your hand across
The gulf of space and moments
Separating each of us.
You return to me
Over and again making
Some sense of my words
Bequeathed to your fine estate
Without any condition.
I know without you
I would be resigned to such
Bleak obscurity
I could never escape this
Hugely restrictive sentence.

Journal entry:
Balancing Act
I ride the high wire
Stretched over the gaping chasm
Of certain defeat.
I make the better
Of the opportunities
Each day presents me.
Creativity
Makes me always active in
Accomplishing goals.
I attempt touching
The hearts of other people
With my own lifework.
I live each moment
To its fullest extent with
Total engagement.
