365 Creativity Project-Day 140

Missing

She told me he will
Leave for Afghanistan soon,
I asked exactly
When and she said she could not
Tell me, so it is secret.

I am only his
Mother now and not privy
To things going on,
She is his wife so she knows
What I can no longer learn.

It makes me worry
No less that I am left out,
The information
I used to be the first to
Know has departed from me.

I am now banished
To the outskirts of knowledge,
He is my one child,
My failure to obtain truth
Is just a part of his growth.

I am so misplaced
In this new life of his choice,
My outstanding fault
Is the continuing need
To explain I still MISS him.

Journal 5-16-20120001

Best Friends

There are many miles
Between us, stretching so far,
And yet we are close;
Loving each other dearly
Remembering childhood bonds.

If I have problems
She always calmly listens
Then gives good advice.
She never turns me away
But is kind and supportive.

I know if I need
Her, she will soon be with me
I only need call,
And she will drop whatever
She is doing to aid me.

No one else outside
My family cares so much
About my being.
She brightens my existence
The sweet sister of my heart.

April PAD Challenge, poem eight:

Rejected Again

I sent a request
Knowing she was part
Of your life now,
But hoping our history
Would mean something
To you even still.

I thought Facebook
Was safe enough,
Removed from intimacy,
That you would allow
Our cyber friendship,
But you denied me.

Journal 4-6-20120001

April PAD Challenge, poem six:

Now Long Gone

His laugh infectious,
He hurried away
Quieting himself down
And hiding somewhere
Within the house.

We would then tell
Our Shih Tzu, Penny,
“Go find Alex!
Where is Alex?”
Off she would go.

Penny would prance
From place to place
Her head held high
Nose twitching
Until she found him.

Then she would bark
With unbridled joy
Because she had
Once again successfully
Found her boy.

Those days are hidden
Long in the past, only
Echoing memories remain
Penny is an old dog,
Alex a grown man.

My poem for today:

Fitful Communication

Weeks go by with no word,
But I know he is there
On his side of the world
Doing his best without complaint.

We are connected despite
The distance separating us.
The internet gives a way
To share our little triumphs.

He says he is almost twenty four,
He has a wife, and things are
Different now, but I am still
His mother, loving him completely.

He is busy, tired, overworked,
I am available, willing, ready,
Whenever he can make the time
For us to share communication.

A few moments of messaging
With him multi-tasking makes
My day worthwhile because
More than anything, I love him.

Photograph of Alex in Uniform

This is a picture of my son, Alex, who is a United States Marine. The pictures I had posted on my MSN Space did not transfer here because they were in albums. Alex is currently in Djibouti and expects to be there until sometime in 2011. He is very happy as a Marine and has recently re-enlisted for another five years. He has been in the Corps since June 4, 2006. He has been stationed in Cherry Point, North Carolina, but his station will change to Japan after he returns from Djibouti. I am very proud of him and pray he stays safe.

Always,
Jo Ann
